Story-led writing support for charities and community organisations

Many organisations do extraordinary work — but the stories and evidence of that work can be difficult to gather and shape alongside day-to-day delivery. I help by capturing lived experience with care, then crafting it into writing that is dignified, consent-led and genuinely useful for communications, fundraising and impact reporting.

This is storytelling that honours people first — and helps your organisation share impact with clarity and integrity.

Stories that help people understand what you do — and why it matters

I can support your communications by creating warm, human pieces that make your work visible and relatable, without sensationalising or oversharing.

Examples include:

  • newsletter stories and features

  • website stories and “impact moments”

  • short micro-stories for social posts

  • volunteer and staff profiles

  • community-facing pieces that reflect your values and voice

Stories that help supporters feel connected — and stay connected

People give to what they feel. I help organisations create supporter-ready stories that build connection while keeping dignity and consent at the centre.

Examples include:

  • one-page case studies for funding bids and donor reports

  • appeal stories and supporter updates

  • story-led sections for brochures, pitch decks and presentations

  • pull-quotes and story snippets that can be reused across campaigns

Turning outcomes into human, funder-ready writing

Many organisations have strong impact, but it’s scattered across notes, emails and people’s heads. I help you draw it together into story-led evidence that shows what changed and why.

This can include:

  • capturing outcomes and quotes in a consistent format

  • shaping lived experience into “what changed” statements

  • creating clear, funder-friendly impact summaries

  • writing stories that complement data (without exaggeration)

Dignity-first storytelling, shaped with care

A Story Portrait is a carefully crafted piece of writing drawn from lived experience. It begins with gentle listening, and is shaped into words that feel true.

Some organisations use Story Portraits publicly, others keep them internal for learning, reflection and culture. Either way, the person remains at the centre

Making stories easy to find and safe to reuse

If you have stories scattered across folders and inboxes, I can help create a simple “story bank” so your organisation can reuse content ethically and consistently.

This might include:

  • a clear naming and tagging system

  • consent/usage notes recorded alongside each piece

  • a library of quotes, short stories and longer case studies

  • a simple usage log to prevent overuse of one story

If you'd liketo explore working together. I offer a simple pilot story as a gentle place to start.

Ethical, human, and impactful storytelling

What makes my approach different is that it begins with deep listening rather than “case study collection”. I'm interested not only in what happened, but what changed - the turning points, the emotions, the meaning, and the quiet forms of courage that people often underplay. I work in a consent-led and trauma-aware way that preserves dignity and voice, without sensationalising or forcing positivity. The result is storytelling that feels human rather than packaged — yet still delivers practical, ready-to-use outputs for organisations.

Who benefits most?

Organisations where human journeys are central to their mission, and they need to show impact in a way people can feel, not just measure, will gain the most value from our Story Portrait service. This includes health and recovery charities, disability and carers organisations, mental health and trauma recovery services, older people's charities, nature and wellbeing groups, and community or youth inclusion charities. I translate human experience into something others can finally understand.

How we work together

My process is designed to be calm and respectful: it starts with a quick briefing to understand your story's purpose, followed by careful story planning and an introduction to the storyteller. I then conduct a gentle, consent-led interview. The first draft is shaped into a dignified narrative, followed by an accuracy check and approval. Finally, you receive your Story Portrait, mini-story, and pull-out quotes in a ready-to-use format.
